Stevenson wrote Treasure Island when he saw his nephew use watercolours to paint the map of an island. He began to give the island names: Skeleton Island or Spyglass Hill, until finally writing "Treasure Island" in the upper right-hand part of the page. After a long illness ("for fourteen years I have not known a single day of health", he wrote), he died ion the Island of Upolu, in the South Pacific, where he was living at the time.

This book offers young readers an adapted text in English and Spanish.

Stevenson escribió La isla del tesoro cuando vio a su sobrino dibujar con acuarelas el mapa de una isla. Comenzó a ponerle nombres: la "Isla del Esqueleto", la "Colina del Catalejo", hasta escribir en la esquina duperior derecha las palabras "La isla del tesoro". Tras una larga enfermedad, murió en 1894 en la isla de Upolu, en el Pacífico Sur, donde vivía entonces. ¿Encontraría su tesoro en esa isla?
