Published in 1843 under the pseudonym ‘Johannes de Silentio’, Fear and Trembling is a foundational text of existentialism and has been influential on Protestant theology. As he analyses the biblical story of Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son Isaac, Kierkegaard draws out its implications for questions of faith and morality.
